Spacecrafts such as artificial satellites possess an emotional beauty that words alone cannot fully capture. The golden gleam of thermal blankets and the deep blue of solar panels evoke more than just functional elegance—they convey a sense of luxury. This piece, Foil, was designed with the image of a solitary, noble man-made object soaring through the boundless cosmos at high speed, drawing inspiration from that vision.
Crafted through the exceptional handiwork of Hakui, a renowned Kanazawa foil manufacturer, the surface of this suitcase is meticulously finished by applying tin foil, sheet by sheet, onto vulcanized fiber. The craftsmanship of Globe-Trotter, honed over 128 years of tradition, and the Kanazawa foil technique, a cultural heritage of Ishikawa Prefecture with over 400 years of history, together represent a collaboration between the finest artisans of the UK and Japan. The result is a suitcase worthy of being called a work of art. Depending on the angle of the light, it reveals a range of expressions—radiating a distinctive brilliance both in bright settings and in soft shadows.
Carrying with it the legacy of history and material mastery, this creation stands as a symbol of humanity’s spirit as it ventures into a new space age. It accompanies the traveler’s journey, quietly illuminating the path ahead while faithfully protecting the treasures within.
人工衛星などの宇宙機（スペースクラフト）には、言葉では言い表せない情緒的な美しさがある。金色に輝くサーマルブランケット（遮熱材）や、深い青を湛えたソーラーパネル――それらは単なる機能美を超えて、ある種のラグジュアリーすら感じさせる。本作『Foil』は、果てのない宇宙空間を高速で飛翔する、一点の高貴な人工物を思い描きながら、そのイメージをインスピレーションとしてデザインされた。
本製品は、金沢箔メーカー・箔一の卓越した手仕事によって、スーツケース本体のヴァルカナイズドファイバーに錫箔を一枚一枚丁寧に施すことで完成する。128年間変わらぬ製法でつくられるグローブ・トロッターのクラフトマンシップと、400年以上の歴史を持つ石川県の伝統工芸・金沢箔の技術。この英国と日本を代表する職人技の共創によって生まれたスーツケースは、まさに工芸作品と呼ぶにふさわしい存在である。光を受ける角度によってさまざまな表情を見せ、明るい環境でも、柔らかな陰影の中でも、独特の輝きを放つ。
歴史に裏打ちされた技と素材を携えながらも、人類が切り拓こうとする新たな宇宙時代への精神を象徴する本作は、旅人の挑戦に寄り添い、大切な荷物を確かに守りながら、未知への旅を静かに照らしていく。
